On August 4, 2015, it was reported that Steve Carr would next direct the film adjustment of the 2011 novel Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life composed by James Patterson, and the script was composed by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer.[1] Griffin Gluck would assume the lead part as Rafe Khatchadorian, an understudy at Hills Village Middle School. Leopoldo Gout and Bill Robinson would deliver the film alongside CBS Films which would likewise handle the universal deals, with Lionsgate taking care of the distribution.[1] On November 12, 2015, more cast declared for the film, whose script was additionally composed by Kara Holden, and it was reported that Patterson would co-fund the film through his James Patterson Entertainment alongside Participant Media and CBS Films.[3]
